Breville Espresso Makers
The Breville Company’s name is founded on innovative design and great production quality. Breville, an acronym based on the surnames of founders Bill O’Brien and Harry Norville, is an Australian brand – a very successful intruder in the Italian dominated field.
This is one handsome beast of a machine. It is the favorite machine in its class by all reviewers & available for a great price at Amazon. It’s smooth, contemporary lines will look great on your kitchen counter. And it makes coffee to die for. The built-in grinder ensures perfect, fresh doses. If you are looking for a great balance between a fully automatic machine and enough manual options to be in control of your brew, then this could be the one for you.
It takes less than 2 minutes to transform coffee beans into a rich, aromatic espresso covered in a luxurious layer of smooth crema. The conical burr grinder and dosing control allow you to experiment with the results. You control the size of the grind, the amount and the tamping pressure. You can really hone your espresso making skills. If you are a beginner, you can use the pressurized dual-walled filters which help administer perfect crema. Once you become more confident, switch to the single-wall filters the pros use to further adapt your skills.

The integrated burr grinder is a huge plus, enabling you to grind your beans to the grade you require, and the bean hopper has an air tight seal so there is no degrading of the beans whilst being stored. If you choose to use the programmable settings they are simple, one push buttons which are easy to master. It’s made from heavy, stainless steel which looks great and, most importantly, this really does deliver a sterling cup of coffee. The steamer gets the thumbs up from pretty much every reviewer on Amazon, and although there are no reviews on Coffee Geek for this actual model, its predecessors are praised as well.
There have been a few issues with temperature and some folks say the coffee isn’t always as hot as they would like. Also, if you use oily beans (like Sumatra or Kenyan) then they tend to get a little stuck in the hopper. If the grind is really fine it seems you may experience blockages, but these are easily sorted with a bit of pin poking.
The Bottom Line
It seems that the Breville Barista Express BES860XL pretty much presses everyone’s buttons in the right places. The integrated burr grinder is a huge success. You do need to spend a bit of time learning how to use it at first. But just the same, the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. The option to use both double and single walled filters means it’s a great beginner machine, but also allows you to experiment once you become more proficient. Of all the machines we reviewed, we like the lines of the Breville the most. This is a really good choice & of course the best place to buy it is Amazon.
