Gaggia 90500 Titanium Automatic Espresso Machine Review
The Gaggia 90500 Titanium Automatic Espresso Machine is a sleek looking, upper-mid range priced machine. Its impressive solid steel construction & design will be noticed by everyone who comes into your kitchen. It’s an automatic, so it will do it all for you. But, if you like to adjust and fiddle with settings and results, you’ll be happy too. Once you find what you like, you can keep the settings, so you’ll have repeatedly great espresso.
A word of praise and warning: Coffee Geek reviewers love this machine; Amazon reviewers much less so. That usually means, it’s a machine that needs some attention, but it will be awesome if you give it the right care. While simple to use, it’s not that simple to maintain.
Gaggia bills this as an all round ‘coffee centre’, with easy-to-operate push button controls. There’s an on/off timer and a bypass doser. They let you add extra pre-ground coffee into the machine if you want. It also boasts two boilers. This means less time between brewing and steaming. Keep that in mind if you like to brew for your friends – it won’t take forever to get everyone a drink.

Amazon review summary: 12 positive (4 or 5). 7 negative (2 or less). 0 neutral (3)
The reviews of the Gaggia 90500 Automatic Titanium Espresso Machine are a bit of a mixed bag. Those who posted on Coffee Geek seem to have fallen in love with it. But Amazon reviewers seem to be a little harder to please. Those who like it agree that it’s extremely user friendly. They loved the rich, hot coffee, and classy looks. The fact that you can alter the temperature of the water is a huge plus. And for a change, reviewers found a frother that is extremely efficient. The automatic frothing attachment lets you froth milk straight from a container. Since it dispenses straight into your coffee cup – there is no mess, no splash, and nothing to clean up.
The major complaints with the Gaggia Titanium a rather complicated setup and the machine getting clogged and going into ‘ventilate’ mode. Several reviewers were bothered enough to return their purchase for replacement. Reading reviews carefully show some agreement: While it is fairly easy to clean you do need to decalcify the unit on a regular basis. Also, make sure you clean the nozzles after every use. Some people have reported initial problems with the grinder becoming clogged, although this seems to become better with use.
The Bottom Line
It’s hard to tell if problems are in production or with the users. Since there are very positive Coffee Geek reviews, it may be user expectations. Most people seem to be more than satisfied with this machine. It’s almost a bit of a ‘love it or hate it’ espresso maker. Keep in mind that none of the issues are with the quality of the coffee it produces, they are all with the actual functioning of the machine. Although the machine is fully automatic, you do have the chance to personalise your coffee to your particular taste with the grind settings and strength adaptor. For ease of use (cleaning aside), then it seems to be a pretty user friendly design, and if you are the patient, careful type, you’ll do well with the Gaggia.
